After more than 30 years behind the chair, you might think a Master Barber has seen it all.
John Riniker would tell you there is always something new to learn.
Men’s grooming continues to evolve. Styles change. Products improve. Techniques advance. Hair color and gray blending become more natural. New tools enter the industry. And customers expect more from their grooming experience than ever before.
That’s why continuing education has remained an important part of John’s career for more than three decades.
Experience Matters. Staying Current Matters Too.
Becoming a Master Barber takes years of training, practice, and experience. But earning the title doesn’t mean the education stops.
John continues to learn through professional trade shows, industry education, vendor training, product demonstrations, and ongoing education in areas such as cutting techniques, men’s grooming, hair color, and gray blending.
Why continue training after 30+ years?
Because there is always something new, and sometimes something better.
John believes experience gives a barber a strong foundation, while continuing education keeps that experience relevant to the customer sitting in the chair today.
Thirty years of experience doesn’t mean doing things the way you did 30 years ago.
Ahead of the Men’s Grooming Trend
John’s experience in the beauty and grooming industry extends far beyond the barber chair.
Over the years, he has owned and operated award-winning salon and spa businesses and developed a deep understanding of both professional grooming and exceptional customer service.
And long before upscale men’s grooming shops became the trend they are today, John was already exploring the idea.
Roughly 20 years ago, he created an urban male grooming barbershop concept that combined professional grooming with an environment designed specifically for men, including a pool table.
Today, concepts combining barbering, men’s grooming, comfortable surroundings, and an elevated customer experience can be found across the country.
For John, that philosophy isn’t new.
He has believed for decades that a great haircut is only one part of a great grooming experience.
More Than a Haircut
That same philosophy can be found today at John’s Barber Shop in Tallahassee.
John brings together traditional barbering, modern men’s grooming techniques, professional products, continuing education, and decades of customer-service experience.
It’s also why details matter.
A consultation before the haircut. Understanding how a client’s hair grows. Knowing how a particular cut will work with his lifestyle. Recognizing when gray blending may create a more natural result than traditional hair color. Understanding beard shape, facial structure, grooming products, and how a finished style can be maintained at home.
Those details come from experience.
Knowing when there may be an even better way to do something comes from continuing to learn.
Mastery Is Not the End of Learning
There is an interesting thing about becoming an expert in any profession: the more you know, the more you realize the profession never stops changing.
John has spent more than 30 years learning his craft, serving clients, operating businesses, training, attending professional events, working with industry vendors, and watching men’s grooming evolve.
And he is still learning.
That may be one of the most important lessons those decades of experience have taught him.
Being a Master Barber isn’t about reaching a point where there is nothing left to learn.
It’s about having the experience to know what works, and the curiosity to keep discovering what works even better.
At John’s Barber Shop, that combination of experience, education, and attention to detail is part of every appointment.
Because after more than 30 years, John Riniker still believes the next thing he learns might make your next haircut, beard service, color service, or grooming experience even better.
